Plastic bottles are made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and are collected through recycling programs around the world.
The plastic bottles are ground up into a powder and then the recycled polyester (often called rPET) is recast into strong fibers that are used to create the wallcovering base.
But why exactly is rPET considered more sustainable?
- It saves energy. The energy needed to make the rPET is less than what is needed to make virgin polyester fibers.
- The bottles and other plastics are not ending up in landfill.
